One of my favorite experiences was attending a FIFA soccer game at the Yaounde stadium. Leading up to the game, we went around town searching for soccer jerseys to wear which is not an easy task when you’re 6’4″ like Brett or when you don’t like wearing t-shirts like me. We finally found a shirt for Brett having trying on 8594205824092 of them. Then we took my shirt to the tailor to make a dress. Next on our list was to hire a member of the BIR to come with us for safety reason. A violent riot broke out at the soccer stadium in 2011 which isn’t unusual so we needed to take the extra precaution. We also chose to purchase VIP tickets ($80 USD) since the section is more exclusive from the rest of the crowd. The game was a little chaotic but a ton of fun. When the game is nearing an end you’ll see people running to the parking lot. Apparently they do that to avoid possible violence. We knew that in advance so we left as well, surviving our first soccer game!
