Taylor and I planned a sister trip to Baja California. I wanted to experience the ultra touristy Cabos San Lucas, but I always have to balance it out with something off the beaten path, so we added the small little coastal town of Todos Santos to our itinerary. From San Jose del Cabos (one of the ‘Los Cabos’), we hopped on the local bus since it is a cheap and relatively easy way to travel. When we arrived in Todos Santos our Air Bnb host, Isabel, was waiting at the bus stop for us. She was so happy, cheerful and welcoming that we instantly knew we were going to have a fantastic time. She told us all about the town. It’s an artsy enclave with galleries everywhere and several art festivals each year. They hold a mango festival right before harvest (usually late July or early August) with a parade, lots of dancing and the crowning of the Mango festival Queen. Another popular site is Hotel California which is thought to be the same one in the Eagles song. If you go during the right season you might even see the sea turtles laying eggs or hatching.
We rented an Air Bnb called Casablanca about a 10 minute walk from the beach (La Poza beach), although it took us about 20 minutes since it was such a maze to get there. We could see the beach but kept reaching dead ends, and getting lost. The adventure of it all was too fun. Once we arrived, we were stunned at how beautiful and untouched it was. Hardly a person in sight. Isabel warned us to not get into the water due to the roughness of the waves, steep drop offs and the undertow. Since we couldn’t get in the water, we brought a blanket the we spread out over the orange sand so we could listen to the waves and watch the sunset.
Our hosts Isabel and Gabriel recommended that we eat at La Casita and even offered us a ride there which we quickly accepted since transportation isn’t readily available and the roads are pretty rough. The food and service was amazing so ended up eating here both nights that we were in town. On the second night they even had a live band playing.
While we were here we arranged a tour with Eco Adventures to spend a day near La Paz.
